Programs for Clergy

At the Sustainable Sanctuary Coalition, we believe there is a spiritual, religious, and moral imperative to be good stewards of the Earth and its resources. We also believe that communities of faith have an important role to play in meeting the environmental challenges currently facing the planet. If you are a spiritual leader of a congregation and believe the same way, we want to support you.

SSC hosts an annual Clergy Workshop designed to educate clergy and seminarians on how to preach, teach, and be effective leaders in Earth care. It features national and local speakers who articulate the theological and scriptural basis for creation stewardship. It also includes practical information and tools based on the experience of clergy who have made Earth care an important and integral part of their congregation’s life and ministry.

Ready to take a step? Then consider making a commitment to give One Sermon for the Earth. Many clergy fulfill this commitment on or around Earth Day each year by giving a sermon or talk focused on the importance of being good Earth-stewards. You can find worship resources to help you prepare on our Resources for Clergy page.
