Under Attack:  At-Risk Environmental Policies and Protections

March 5, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Presented Kathleen Green Henry and Sarah Willy
of the Great Rivers Environmental Law Center

Village Presbyterian Church
(park in the south parking lot)

Environmental policies and protections are put in place to protect the natural world, and everyone’s health. They limit pollution of the air we breathe and the water we drink, and protect the natural places we hold dear. However, these protections are under attack by our current Federal and Missouri State administrations. Some laws have already been rolled back and lost, and more are at risk.   As Missouri’s only public interest law firm focused on the environment, Great Rivers is paying attention. Come hear from staff members Kathleen Henry and Sarah Willey what’s at stake – and how to help.

Presenter Biographies
Kathleen Green Henry, President and Attorney
Kathleen grew up floating Missouri’s streams and rivers, gaining a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Her parents were active in environmental causes and Kathleen assisted them by stuffing envelopes and baking lemon bars for fundraisers. After graduating from Washington University Law School, Kathleen worked as a Public Defender doing criminal appeals. This work prepared her for the uphill battles environmental plaintiffs face in the justice system. In 2002, Kathleen helped found Great Rivers and she has been working at it ever since. For Great Rivers, Kathleen has worked on zoning matters, park protection, environmental justice issues, climate change and public health, and water quality issues.

Sarah Willey, Director of Development and Community Outreach
Sarah holds a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Washington University and has years of experience in environmental activism. She is responsible for fundraising and increasing Great Rivers’ visibility in the community. Sarah loves helping our Friends stay connected to our work. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, and yoga, and loves to read and tend to her garden. She lives in Florissant with her spouse Brian and two cats Daisy and Pinto.
