Eco-feminism: an exploration of our planetary plight through a feminist lens

November 12, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

What is the role of gender in environmental exploitation and degradation? Who is most impacted by both and why? What are the religious, social, historical and economic forces that have brought us here? And, where do we go from here?

Presenter Bio

Mary Silwance has been researching, writing about and working on environmental issues for nearly the last twenty years. Her interest began through exposure to social justices issues and realizing that planetary desecration is at the heart of social, political and economic inequity. Rooted in the belief that addressing our environmental and human desecration is spiritual work, Mary pursued several directions. One, to seek a lifestyle more aligned with justice; two, to investigate personal and communal complicity with unjust systems via her blog; three, to start a movement to address fossil fuel addiction; four, to work in the environmental field: Mary had been the Farm to School Coordinator for DeLaSalle high school and the Program Director for Green Works in Kansas City previously and is currently the Green Stewards Crew Leader for Bridging The Gap. Otherwise, Mary gardens, is an award-winning poet active in the Kansas City’s writing scene, speaks on environmental issues to whoever will listen and tries to parent her three daughters mind and heartfully.
